On 8 January 2019, the Supreme Court rejected the cassation in the criminal case against Joke Kaviaar. With that, a final obstacle that stood in the way of Joke’s imprisonment has been set aside. It is to be feared that her arrest and confinement will now take place in the very short term, after which her imprisonment of a total of two and a half months commences. Continue reading →

Anarchism at the Barricade
An introductory talk about basic anarchist ideas and concepts.

Anarchism can mean all kinds of things to all kinds of people. But what does it mean to anarchists themselves?
What are the basic ideas that most, if not all, anarchists hold in common? What is it that anarchists object to in present society, what is so wrong with it?
What kind of society do anarchists aim for? And how do anarchists think we can go from here to there, from present society to freedom for all?

In this Barricade meeting, Peter Storm, anarchist writer, musician and activist, will try to introduce basic anarchist concepts, ideas, goals and methods.

He will talk for quite a while, after which there is time for questions, discussion and meet’n’greet.

On Saturday the 3rd of November Anti-Fascist Action (AFA) will organise a nationwide demonstration in the Hague under the motto: ‘No one is illegal. Down with fortress Europe. Freedom of movement for all.’ Europe has closed its borders to refugees and migrants. Amsterdam. 28 September: March for Education 2.0!

There are still cutbacks, different studies are still being combined, and the workload among teachers is too high. Room for choice disappears, lecturers are being fired, and the representative advisory bodies can’t do anything about it.

Some time ago Rutte III decided to push through yet another round of cuts. Recently the Ministry of Education even announced an increase of the interest rate on student loans.

Demonstration Katwijk, 29 September: Refugee children have rights too!

Lately there has been much to do about Trump’s policies regarding refugee children, that separates children from their parents and puts them into prison. This policy is outrageous. But refugee children in the Netherlands get treated heartless and cruel by the authorities too. And like in the United States, this is a deliberate policy. To draw attention to the situation of refugee children,Geen Kind aan de Kant (No Child on the Side) organizes a demonstration in Katwijk on the 29th of September.
